2. Process Evaluation of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), Scorecard based poverty targeting and under the test phase, World Bank / GHK, US$ 53,625, NWFP/AJK/Northern Areas/ Balcohistan, Jun 2009 –Sept 2009

In 2009, the firm completed the World Bank funded “Process Evaluation of Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), Scorecard Based Poverty Targeting under the Test Phase”, The project was implemented in all four provinces and parts of FATA. This was a qualitative and analytical evaluation with the objective of assessing whether or not BISP and its Partner Organizations followed the guidelines specified in the Targeting Manual. The project also evaluated their effective and efficiency in contributing to the achievement of the programme objectives. .

3. FATA Capacity Building Project, USAID / DAI, US$ 51,11 ,298, FATA, Jan 2008 – Ongoing

Funded by the USAID, FATA CBP is a 3-year project designed to assist GOP and FATA institutions to: (1) develop strategic approaches to utilize the anticipated increases in GOP and donor resources expected as a result of the Fata Sustainable Development Program (FSDP); (2) support the building of civilian /paramilitary cooperation in FATA development; (3) build capacity of FATA institutions to plan, implement and manage funds; and to communicate effectively with constituents and communities – to ensure that development initiatives are aligned with local needs and expectations; (4) strengthen the capacity of the indigenous NGO community to deliver resources in support of strategic plans. 4. National Capacity Self Assessment (NCSA), Ministry of Environment (MoE)/UNDP, US$ 84,000, NWFP & Northern Areas, Feb 2008 –Oct 2008

AID has been conferred with responsibility of conducting a national level capacity assessment vis a vis Pakistan’s national commitment to implement the three ‘Rio Conventions’ – biodiversity (UNCBD), land degradation (UNCCD) and climate change (UNFCCC). The project aimed to identify the institutional gaps pertaining to these thematic areas and develop actionable recommendations. The outcomes included; NCSA Action Plan and a Final Report, which drew on the assessment of priority thematic the crosscutting capacity needs and led to a program for capacity building actions. The report recommended goals, objectives and strategies for national capacity development (including priority actions) the time frame, possible funding & responsibilities for implementation.

5. Country-wide evaluation (All four provinces ) of the Khushal Pakistan Program implementation including evaluation of primary schools implemented under the project, World Bank / PPAF, US$ 150,000, All Pakistan, 2003 – 2004

The evaluation focused on assessing the relative efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of KPP interventions as implemented by four RSPs (NRSP, PRSP & the BRSP) on the one hand and the respective local governments on the other. The assessment focused on whether the RSP deliveries style of participatory decision making, demand-driven project menu and cost sharing with community creates a large and more sustainable improvement in the community’s level of welfare as compared to the delivery of the same services through more traditional approaches / mechanisms.

6. Formulation of “Development Strategy” for Peshawar City District under City Development Strategy (CDS), program, World Bank / UNCHS Habitat, US$. 36,400, NWFP, Apr 2001 – Dec 2002

The study was the formulation of a “Development Strategy “for the Peshawar City District. The TA involved identification and participatory review of the various sector and cross-sectoral issues impacting on the development and growth of the Peshawar City District. Primarily focused on institutional and Governance issues, the process involves extensive stakeholder consultations and detailed assessments of the service providers in five major sectors (Municipal Services, Agriculture, Health, Education, Local resource Generation). The process expected to conclude with the preparation of a City Development Strategy and a City Assistance plan covering short, medium and long-term investments in various sectors

7. Decentralization Thematic Evaluation IFADs performance in decentralizing environment; Tanzania, IFAD, US$ 28,000, Tanzania, Jun 2004 – Sep 2004

The evaluation involved assessments of two IFAD-co financed projects including the Kagera Agriculture and Environmental Management Project (KAEMP) and the Participatory Irrigation Development Project (PIDP). The TORs recognized that the projects under review have been conceived and implemented in a rapidly decentralizing environment. A period that also saw significant developments in the evolution of Tanzania’s agriculture sector policies, Rural Development and Poverty reduction strategies as well as the far reaching “Local Government Reform Program. Together, these initiatives have redefined the manner in which the GOT pursued its broader development and poverty reduction agenda in the coming decades.

8. Impact Assessment of Agriculture Development Dir Area Support Project-(DASP), Dir Lower & Upper, Govt of NWFP / IFAD, US $ 5,833, Dir Lower & Upper, May 2005 – August 2005

Agriculture Development Component the second component of Dir Area Support Project implemented through Agriculture Extension, Agriculture Research, Livestock and Dairy Development, Forestry, On farm Water Management and Soil Conservation. In terms of area and output, cereal crops were the most important with maize and rice dominating in Kharif and wheat and barley in Rabi. The cropping pattern in the project area was traditional, as a result the produce was low and the fertility of land was not fully utilized before the start of Dir Area Support Project. In order to promote sustained crop development, intensification and diversification of cropping system to improve food self-sufficiency, the main focus of the project remained on agriculture development through out the previous six years. In order to see the impact of project interventions in terms of adaptation of new technology by the farmers, increase in farm produce and income in the project area, the project intends to conduct an Impact Evaluation Study in the different domains.

9. Management/Technical support for education sector, project for Afghan Refugees (NWFP), Afghan Delaware Communities Together (AFDECT), DE/USA, US$ 16,000, NWFP, 2002 – 2003

The project was an Afghan Primary Girls School and aims the promotion of girls’ education in Afghan Community. The project consisted of construction supervision of the School building in Jallozai Camp, District Pabbi, and NWFP. Monitoring and evaluation are also the main aspects of the project

10. Assessment of Facilities Upgrading Needs of Universities and Government Colleges supported by Pre-STEP, USAID/AED, US$ 48,157, NWFP/Punjab/Balochistan/Sindh/FANA/Northern Areas, Sept 2009 – Oct 2009

Funded by the USAID, this project entailed the preparation of a rapid facility assessment study for submission to USAID Pakistan and the Community Rehabilitation Infrastructure Support Programme (CRISP) likely to fund the up-gradation needs. The study provided an overview of the upgrading needs of 15 Faculties of Education (FoE) iof the universities involved in Pre-STEP and a sample of four Government Colleges for Elementary Teaching (GCETs) – one in each of the four provinces. The assessment also provided an analysis of the equipment and utilities available and/or needed to implement the teacher education reform objectives of Pre-STEP.

Funded by US Agency for International Development the project targeted the reconstruction of two large school facilities. AiD technical assistance included   seismic design and construction of two middle schools in Bagh/AJK which directly benefited the  communities.


2. Assessment, Design, Construction & Supervision of two schools as pilot project of USAID in earthquake affected areas, USAID, Pakistan Mission, US $ 108,333, Daddar Mansehra, May 2006 – 2008

As pilot component of FATA Schools (Construction and Rehabilitation of 130 Schools in 7 Tribal Agencies (FATA), the USAID funded project aims the assessment, design, construction & supervision of three schools (GHS, GGMS & GGPS) in the earthquake affected area of Dadar, District Mansehra.

3. Implementation of Mangla Dam Raising Project, WAPDA / NESPAK, US$ 166,667, Mangla 2004 – ongoing

Funded by WAPDA, the Consultancy services of Mangla Dam Raising Project involve the following phases;

• IIIB: Construction Supervision

AiD inputs focused on quality assurance and construction supervision. Among these for selected components of the projects.

The Mangla Joint Venture (MJV) comprise, a group of five companies, three Locals (M/s NESPAK, M/s ACE and M/s Barqaab) and two Foreigners (M/s BBV and M/s MWH) were the lead responsible for the Project. Besides, M/s AiD Pvt Ltd., two other local companies, viz, M/s TC International of Karachi, and M/s PACE of Hyderabad were also part of the MJV group.

4. FATA Schools Construction & Rehabilitation Project, Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), USAID, Pakistan Mission, US$ 3.5 million, FATA, Jun 2004 – Jul 2008

Funded by the USAID the turn-key initiative was aimed at improving the status of primary, middle and high school education through a multi-purpose program. The strategy focused on investments in the construction, up-gradation, rehabilitation and essential inputs for 130 schools scattered in various Tribal agencies and Frontier Regions of FATA.

AiD provided turn-key support in the following phases:

Phase 1: Preliminary Assessments and recommendations on the current or existing school facilities.

Phase 2: Design & Costing (of upgrading existing schools and building new ones).

Phase 3: New Construction/Up-gradation/Rehabilitation.

Phase 4: Provision of Schools Furniture.

5. Construction Supervision of Road Projects in Tribal Areas, Bajaur Agency under Bajaur Area Development Project (BADP),

The Project consisted of Construction Supervision of a network of roads in Bajaur & Mohmand Agencies FATA. This project was part of the five years integrated Bajaur & Mohmand Area Development Project (MADP & BADP) funded by US government through Narcotics Affairs Section of US Embassy. The total length of roads under this project was 75 kms.

The aim of MADP & BADP was to curb poppy cultivation in the areas by improving the infrastructure facilities such as roads, water supply, and irrigation networks in order to provide a viable alternate source of livelihood.

6. Design & Top Construction Supervision Services for the CECP funded Health & Education BOT Project, Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF), US $ 450,000, NWFP & AJK, Mar 2007 – Aug 2008

AiD was awarded a contract for Design & supervision of 16 facilities in the health and education sectors in the earthquake affected areas of Pakistan. These activities were funded by Committee for Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP) which is US based Philanthropic organisation. The education facilities included primary, middle and high schools for girls and boys. While the health sector facilities covered several basic health units (BHUs) and rural health centres (RHCs)

Collectively the AIDI team have worked on a wide range of projects in over two dozen countries of Asia and Africa.  The corporate experience of AID Pakistan covers much of Pakistan and several projects in Sri Lanka, Bangle Desh and East Africa while other team members bring experiences from Central and East Asia to the Middle East and the Central Asia region.

Our international operations are supported through two closely affiliated firms (AID FZE and AIDI) that are registered in the UAE and the UK. Run by experienced professionals these organizations are responsible for international business operations and also provide management backstopping to the company’s Pakistan offices on a case to case basis.

Since establishment, the company has worked with a wide range of clients including large multi-lateral and bilateral development organizations major public sector organizations, a number of international corporate clients and large non-governmental organizations. Among the  company’s major clients include the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the USAID, EU, DFID, and the Swiss Agency for Development Cooperation (SDC), IFAD, the UNDP and several international NGOs.
